Each chapter feels like a different game. Prehistoric is wordless, Edo Japan is stealth, and Wild West is trap puzzles. The grid combat is simple but positioning and turn order matter. Chapters vary wildly - some are 90 minutes, others three hours. If you’re not feeling one chapter, the next might grab you, and the final scenario ties everything together cleverly.
Each chapter teaches you something new. The variety keeps things interesting.
Each chapter explores different themes - loneliness, legacy, justice. The writing commits to each genre, the Distant Future and Near Future chapters hit emotionally, and the ending subverts JRPG tropes in a bold way.
The HD-2D looks incredible. Pixel sprites pop against 3D backgrounds, Yoko Shimomura’s rearranged soundtrack is great, and each period has its own musical style.
Experimental and uneven but always interesting. The anthology format works for shorter sessions. Good preservation of a lost classic.
